Wu Man explores the inner relationship between the artistic forms of pipa music, calligraphy and the poetry of the Tang Dynasty (610-906 A.D), one of the most prosperous period in Chinese history, in Ancient Dances, a solo recital program created with composer Chen Yi featuring a video installation with calligraphy by Wu Man’s father. By combining the musical power of the pipa with these elements, Wu Man creates a new dimension for pipa performance and provides a comprehensive experience of classical Chinese culture for the audience.
